¢º Christian Eriksen signs with Brentford FC, first club after terrifying collapse at Euro 2020 [2022/02/12   ]

Christian Eriksen, more than seven months after he collapsed during a terrifying moment in a Euro 2020 match, is making his return.

Eriksen signed a deal with Brentford FC on Monday, and will finish out the season with the Premier League club.

¡°We have taken an unbelievable opportunity to bring a World Class player to Brentford,¡± head coach Thomas Frank said in a statement. ¡°He hasn¡¯t trained with a team for seven months but has done a lot of work on his own. He is fit but we will need to get him match fit and I am looking forward to seeing him work with the players and staff to get back towards his highest level.

¡°At his best, Christian has the ability to dictate games of football. He can find the right passes and is a goal threat. He also has very, very good set piece delivery, both from corners and direct free kicks. He is a player you can find with the ball, and he will come up with a solution to the problem in front of him.¡±

Christian Eriksen collapsed during Euro2020 match

Eriksen collapsed just before halftime of a Euro2020 match against Finland in Copenhagen in June due to cardiac arrest.

Eriksen, after receiving a throw-in, collapsed on the field seemingly out of nowhere.

Teammates immediately signaled for medical crews and formed a circle around him while paramedics tended to him before eventually taking him to a local hospital.

The match was suspended, and finished hours later despite opposition from players. Eriksen said days later that he was OK, and he underwent a procedure before he was released from the hospital.

Eriksen now has a heart starter, but was given clearance to train with his old team in Denmark. He said earlier this month that he hoped to play with Denmark at the World Cup in Qatar this fall.

It¡¯s unclear when Eriksen will make his debut with Brentford, though he will travel to London soon to get started. The 29-year-old last played with Inter Milan in Seire A.

Brentford is currently 6-12-5 this season and in 14th place in the Premier League standings after 23 games. Brentford is set to take on Everton on Saturday before traveling to Manchester City on Wednesday.
